The Ideas Fiesta was a unique and exciting part of Council’s community engagement process informing the preparation the Brisbane City Council's new City Centre Master Plan.

A three-week long series of free public events in 2013, the Fiesta aimed to:

• Stimulate community interest in imagining the future of our City;
• Showcase exemplar design concepts for key spaces and places within the City; and
• Capture the community’s ideas and feedback.

Lat27 was one of ten design companies invited to explore concepts for key city places and spaces. The challenging Queens Wharf precinct beneath the riverside expressway was our focus. Concepts for reinvigorating the long-neglected Queen’s Wharf area were developed to show how this valuable riverside space can be brought back to life through bold and imaginative intervention.

Our vision was to re-awaken this vital stretch of the riverfront as an urban, water-edge playground brimming with energy, history and dynamic city life. Stronger pedestrian connections to the City Centre will bring people directly down to the river’s edge. There, new flexible plaza spaces, boardwalks and floating pontoons could host an exciting and eclectic mix of temporary and ‘pop-up’ activities such as fresh food markets, live music and urban multi-sport courts.
