David Fleay’s Canoe Launch

As part of a broad reaching strategy, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) reviewed many of their facilities and looked for opportunities to provide a greater level of amenity and activity for their visitors.

A canoe launch to connect David Fleay’s Wildlife Precinct with the Tallebudgera Beach School and Tallebudgera Active Recreation Centre was identified as a valuable opportunity to positively contribute to, and connect, a cluster of educational and recreational uses.

Lat27 were engaged to provide design documentation for the canoe access and boardwalk. Our approach was to touch the site lightly with minimal interventions and elevated deck. The result is simple, robust structure not without its refinements.
