LatStudios prepared a Landscape and Visual Assessment (LVA) to evaluate the potential impact of the proposed Rockhampton Ring Road (RRR). This is a significant 22 km road infrastructure project that is proposed to provide a bypass of Rockhampton that will provide long-term solutions to flooding impacts to the Bruce Highway in and around the city. The project includes 12.5 m nominal highway width, cycle facilities, as well as associated road intersection and bridge reconfiguration and construction.  Our work comprised delivery of landscape assessment services to inform the Preliminary Evaluation (PE) and Business Case (BC) phases, in line with the Project Assessment Framework (PAF). The assessment considered impacts on the landscape around Rockhampton, and potential impacts on views including those likely to be experienced by residents of Parkhurst, Pink Lily the Rockhampton Airport and recreational users of the Fitzroy River. Our commission also involved the preparation of plans to support the LVA and informed preliminary landscape mitigation proposals that were developed by AECOM to enhance the integration of the project into its landscape setting.

LatStudios also provided an addendum assessing three alternative arrangements for the Alexandra Interchange.

The detailed design for the Rockhampton Ring Road is underway and construction of the project is anticipated to begin in 2022.
