As Brisbane continues to mature as Australia’s new world city, we are presented with even more opportunities to increase the way we use our river and its edges. As a river city with an enviable subtropical climate, we can capitalise on this unique natural landscape feature to showcase our city to residents and visitors alike.

Council’s River’s Edge Strategy will guide Council’s planning for enhancing the river’s recreational and economic development opportunities over the next 10 years. This study - The River's Edge Public Realm Study - was prepared in partnership by Lat27 and URBIS as a supporting study to inform the Strategy. The focus was the inner city reaches, an amazing 20km's of diverse river edges and urban settings.

The goal was to investigate the strategic and local contexts and provide public realm guidance for enhancing the river’s recreational and economic development opportunities, addressing:

• Strengthening Brisbane’s identity as the River City;
• Greater access and integration between the river and our inner-city suburbs and centres;
• Identifying recreational and tourism opportunities;
• Enhancing opportunities for river focused economic activity;
• Greater active transport connectivity; and
• Supporting the river’s transformation as a venue for world class events.
