This new mixed use street will establish a vital pedestrian link between The Plaza and St Pauls Terrace and become the main activity spine through the heart of the wider urban renewal precinct, The Brisbane Showgrounds. Brisbane’s newest ‘high street’ will comprise a wide and vibrant mix of dining, retail, market spaces, cafes and bars.

Generous atypical footpath offsets, widths and arrangements offer opportunities for commercial and informal activation without compromise to the connectivity and function of the street. Overlays of markets and pop up stalls further influenced functional layouts and service provisions.

Pavement treatments are arranged and crafted to give variety to the ground plane while reinforcing wayfinding and spatial hierarchies. Custom furniture interventions along the street offer settings for interaction and aesthetic interest.

For the first time in Brisbane, bio retention gardens have been fully integrated into an urban streetscape.  Although evident on closer review, the water treatment devices are discretely housed within the diverse ground cover species and canopy trees that deliver meaningful additions to the planting palette.
