LatStudios’ staff members Wendy Davies (Director) and Georgina Pratten (Associate) are thrilled to have contributed to this recent publication in the MDPI Land journal.

The paper, led by RMIT lecturer Dr Ata Tara, was prepared in collaboration with other esteemed landscape planning researchers, Dr Gillian Lawson (Lincoln University) and Alan Chenoweth PhD.

The research presents a modified approach to regional landscape planning developed by the team, with an associated GIS mapping methodology. This novel approach is founded on the integration of expert-led Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) techniques originating from the UK with community-informed scenic amenity preference values, based on Queensland’s Scenic Amenity Methodology (SAM).

The paper was informed by studies undertaken by the team, particularly the Toowoomba Regional Landscape and Urban Character and Scenic Amenity Studies undertaken on behalf of Toowoomba Regional Council by LatStudios, TRACE Visual Planning + Design, Extent Heritage, PSA Consulting and The Comms Team that were recognised with an Award of Excellence for Landscape Planning by AILA Queensland in 2022.

LatStudios values ongoing collaboration with researchers and practitioners to support the development of academic knowledge with practical application to projects, enabling advances in the planning, management, and design of our landscapes.
