Then & Now: Urban Edge, Kelvin Grove

We take a look back at one of our first projects, Urban Edge Apartments at Kelvin Grove by Pradella and in close collaboration with Rothelowman. This terraced hillside garden, and it’s three, stepped towers looking across the Victoria Park Golf Course to the City, took four years to complete and was fully occupied by 2014. We designed a range of connected places of varying sizes and programs within the gardens for residents and visitors to enjoy, and can gladly report that the landscape has matured to create a lush, subtropical garden full of life and community activity. The quality of the construction and detailing, the layered plant species palette and the integration of architectural forms and program are all working together beautifully to ‘ground’ the apartments within a mature, podium landscape that blends well with the surrounding streetscape.

This project proves that quality urban density outcomes can be delivered successfully by a committed project team with a vision and a healthy dose of creativity. We are glad to see the residents of Urban Edge enjoying all of the benefits of inner city living within this rambling hillside garden.
