Delivering as many community benefits as possible from urban water management projects has long been a focus for Lat27. Damian Thompson recently addressed the first state conference of Parks & Leisure Australia (PLAQ) on this topic. His lecture, ‘Integrated Water Management: Driving multiple community benefits from our open spaces’, covered the full range of waterway interaction from the spontaneous, crowd-sourced ‘floodofideas’ project in 2011 through to some local creek filtration trial projects recently built in partnership with Brisbane City Council and BMT WBM. The more we understand and appreciate our highly contested waterways – the more we can learn to co-exist with them.

With our partners, we will continue to explore creative ways to maximise community and ecological benefit from the many important waterway management projects underway locally and interstate.
